A Mehdavia home
in the heart of Sydney.
جہاں کہیں بھی رہو اللہ کی یاد میں رہو
“Wherever you may be, remain in the remembrance of Allah.”
From sixty people in a hired hall in 2008 to a registered community with its own musallah, weekly Ijtema and a Deeni Academy for our children — MCSI exists so that Mehdavi families in Sydney never have to practise their faith alone.

Ways to giveBuilt by families, one Ramadan at a time
MCSI did not begin with a building. It began in 2008 with about sixty people gathered in a hired hall for Dugana Lailatul Qadr, led by Hz Maulana Hazrat Syed Mohammed Sarfaraz Mehdi Miyan.
For the next eight years the community met wherever it could — South Parade in Auburn, then Chisholm Road, then Clarke Street in Berala — carrying prayer mats and folding tables from one borrowed room to the next. Weekly Sunday Ijtema began in 2016. Registration with Fair Trading NSW followed on 19 April 2019, and in February 2020 we opened a musallah of our own.
Today more than 250 people are part of this community. The purpose has not changed since that first night in 2008: let’s build a strong Mehdavia community for the next generation, In’Sha’Allah.

Our children should know why they pray
The single greatest risk to a diaspora community is that the next generation inherits the culture but not the conviction. The Deeni Academy exists to close that gap.
- Qur’an — correct recitation with tajweed, building towards fluency.
- Islamic studies — aqeedah, fiqh of daily worship, seerah and akhlaq.
- Mehdavia teachings — the life and message of Imam Mehdi Alaihis Salam.
- Taught in English — by teachers from within our own community.
What’s coming up
Dugana Lailatul Qadr, Eid Milap, Milad-e-Mehdi and the weekly Ijtema — the rhythm of the MCSI year.
Sunday Ijtema
The weekly community gathering that has run without interruption since 2016 — zikr, bayan and time together as a community.
Daily prayers in jama’ah
All five daily prayers are offered in congregation at the musallah, which has been open for congregational prayer since February 2020.
Upcoming dated events
Confirmed dates for the coming year — Ramadan Taraveeh, Dugana Lailatul Qadr, Eid ul Fitr, Eid Milap and Milad-e-Mehdi — should be added here as the committee sets them. The Events page has the full archive of past gatherings, and the same card format is ready to be filled in.
This community runs on sadaqah, not subscriptions
Rent for the musallah, utilities, teaching materials for the Deeni Academy, and quiet welfare support for families going through hardship — all of it is met by people who give. No government funding, no paid staff.
Common questions about MCSI
Short, direct answers — for new visitors, for families considering joining, and for anyone researching the Mehdavia community in Sydney.
Who are the Mehdavia?
The Mehdavia (also written Mahdavia or Mahdavi) are a Muslim community who follow the teachings of Hazrat Syed Muhammad Jaunpuri, known as Imam Mehdi Alaihis Salam (1443–1505 CE). Mehdavis observe the five pillars of Islam and, in addition, place particular emphasis on tark-e-dunya (detachment from worldliness), zikr-e-ilahi (constant remembrance of Allah), uzlat-az-khalq (seclusion from distraction), tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and living communally in a daira. Mehdavi communities are found across India, Pakistan, the Gulf, the United Kingdom, North America and Australia.
Where is the MCSI musallah and can anyone visit?
Our musallah is at Unit 2, 8 Dartbrook Road, Auburn NSW 2144, about a ten minute walk from Auburn station. Everyone is welcome. If it is your first visit, you do not need to book or announce yourself — simply come. Modest dress is appreciated, and there is space to leave shoes at the entrance.
What are the prayer times at MCSI?
Times for all five daily prayers are shown at the top of this page and are calculated fresh each day for Auburn’s exact coordinates, so they are always current and adjust automatically for daylight saving. The community prays all five daily prayers in congregation at the musallah, and gathers for a weekly Ijtema.
Does MCSI run Islamic classes for children?
Yes. The MCSI Deeni Academy teaches Qur’an recitation, Islamic studies and Mehdavia teachings to children of the community. Enrolment details and the class schedule are on the Deeni Academy page.
How is MCSI funded and governed?
MCSI is an incorporated association registered with Fair Trading NSW since 19 April 2019, run entirely by volunteers from within the community. It is funded by member contributions and donations. The elected committee is listed on the About page, and financial reporting is presented to members.
How can I support the community?
There are four ways: become a member, make a one-off or recurring donation, volunteer your time and skills, or attend and bring your family. All four are set out on the Get Involved page.
