Deeni Academy

Qur’an, Islamic studies and Mehdavia teachings for the children of our community — taught in English, in Auburn.

Why it exists

Faith is not inherited automatically

A child raised in Sydney will absorb Australian culture without any effort at all. Deen is different: it has to be taught, and taught well enough to survive contact with the wider world.

The Deeni Academy was established so that Mehdavi children growing up here can recite the Qur’an properly, understand the obligations of their faith, know the life and message of Imam Mehdi Alaihis Salam, and carry all of it with confidence rather than embarrassment.

It is taught by members of our own community, in English, at the Auburn musallah.

Syllabus

What your child will learn

Four strands, taught together rather than in isolation, so that recitation, meaning and practice reinforce one another.

Qur’an & Tajweed

Arabic letters and sounds for beginners, progressing to correct recitation with tajweed, memorisation of the shorter surahs, and the supplications needed for daily salah.

Islamic Studies

Aqeedah (belief), the fiqh of wudu and salah, fasting and zakah, the seerah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and akhlaq — character, honesty, and how a Muslim treats other people.

Mehdavia Teachings

The life and message of Hazrat Syed Muhammad Jaunpuri, Imam Mehdi Alaihis Salam; the meaning of zikr-e-ilahi, tark-e-dunya and tawakkul; and the history of the Mehdavia community.

Community & Belonging

Children learn alongside the same peers each week, join community events together, and grow up knowing the adults around them — which is, in the long run, what keeps them here.

Detailed syllabus & year levels

The current site has a Schedule and Syllabus page. Please supply the per-level breakdown (topics per term, surahs covered, assessment points) and it will be published here as a structured table — which is also what search engines and AI assistants need in order to answer “what do Islamic classes in Auburn actually teach?”

Days and times are shown as “to be confirmed” deliberately — publishing a guessed timetable would send families to a closed door. Please supply the real schedule and this table will be filled in.

Term dates follow the NSW school year

Classes pause over school holidays and during Ramadan when the community’s evening programme takes precedence. Enrolled families are notified of changes by email and through the monthly newsletter.

Questions

Deeni Academy — frequently asked

What ages does the Deeni Academy teach?

The Academy is designed for school-aged children of the community. Classes are grouped by age and by Qur’an reading level so that beginners and more advanced students both progress. Contact the committee to discuss which group suits your child.

What does it cost to enrol?

Fee details are confirmed at enrolment. MCSI’s intention is that no child is turned away for financial reasons — if cost is a barrier for your family, speak to the committee in confidence.

What language are classes taught in?

Instruction is in English, with Qur’anic Arabic taught for recitation and Urdu terms used where they are part of the tradition. Children who speak only English at home are well catered for.

Do you teach girls and boys?

Yes. The Academy teaches children of the community in accordance with the community’s norms. Ask the committee about class arrangements when you enrol.

Can I volunteer as a teacher or helper?

Yes, and volunteers are genuinely needed — teaching, supervising, preparing materials and helping at drop-off. See Get Involved.

Where are classes held?

At the MCSI musallah, Unit 2, 8 Dartbrook Road, Auburn NSW 2144 — roughly a ten minute walk from Auburn station, with street parking nearby.

Can you teach, or help?

The Academy runs on volunteers. If you can teach a group, supervise a class, prepare materials or help at drop-off, the community needs you.
